&bread stands out as one of Sofia's top bakeries, in my view. It is a small cozy place in the old Sofia and they often sell out well before closing so be sure to visit early.
Specializing in bread, sandwiches, and croissants, what sets them apart is their commitment to locally sourced ingredients. I have read that they even grow their own wheat for a special flour that is used in their pastries.
If you are a foodie like me, please don't miss their acclaimed canelé - a popular French dessert with rum. It is a delicate pastry with a soft center and a dark caramelized crust. The croissants are also quite alternative – with gouda and za'atar. And as I mentioned - everything sells out pretty quickly.
This is truly a hidden gem for those who appreciate quality baked goods.
